when the eye popped out...

how will you react when your eyes popped out...? scary...??!! shocked..??!!

those were the reactions that i experienced last night..for so long, i already knew that i have allergic conjunctivitis that obviously cannot be cured but can be controlled...but to date, i am not sure what are the specific allergens that cause it..let's say, it is multifactorial....i've been using a medication to control the symptoms and avoiding the allergen) poor me, cannot wear any eyeliner or mascara)..

so last night it was THE DAY it chose to happen again, but this time so intensely itchy until i couldn't open my left eye...i kept on rubbing my eye and felt like taking it out and soak it in a sterilized water so that it becomes purely clean... after almost 1 hour, it gradually stopped and i felt that the affected eye was heavy and droopy...

what i saw in the mirror was a very red eye...fine, that was expected...i look closer in the mirror...eh..? how come the nasal limbus and its conjunctiva were swollen and popping out more than my cornea? that scared me off....

so i called my friend who is training in ophthalmology asking her opinion...it was just a chemosis...she reassured me that it's going to be fine but if i'm unlucky, my conjunctiva can just pop out tomorrow morning if it decided not to subside....

so, i woke up this morning, feeling a bit gritty on the affected eye...looked into the mirror- well, it was still red but not swollen anymore..

so, i need to discipline myself not to rub my eyes vigorously again or else my eyes will popped out again...huuu.....

if you are not sure what is happening to you, please seek medical attention...even though this condition is non life-threatening, if you are not a health professional please get yourself checked by a doctor to confirm the diagnosis....

Chemosis is swelling of the tissue that lines the eyelids and surface of the eye (conjunctiva).

In general, chemosis is a nonspecific sign of eye irritation. The outer surface covering appears to have fluid in it. Often, the eye area swells so much that you can't close your eyes properly.

Chemosis is often related to an allergic response or infection.

my 200th post - prevention is better than cure...

yeay! it's my 200th post....i've been posting in this blog since 2007...glad to have my wonderful readers and thank you for reading the posts and sharing your thoughts with me...

so, back to the topic...the 2nd wave of H1N1 outbreak is back raging in Malaysia...to date, 2 deaths have been reported since the outbreak is back...that should raise our awareness to take good care of ourselves to prevent the H1N1 outbreak within our community...

personal hygiene and cleanliness are still the 1st measures to be taken by everybody seriously....by implementing such actions, the risk of transmission can be minimized...if you are having influenza-like-illness (ILI), it is advisable for you to seek medical attention to get healthcare professional opinions regarding your illness...stay at home until you are cured in order to prevent the viral spread to others...

for those who are high-risk of contracting H1N1, it is advisable to get H1N1 vaccinations..in Malaysia, they are not free..they come at a cost...talk to your healthcare provider regarding this if you are interested....

for us, we decided to vaccinate the whole family...being a healthcare professional is one of the high-risk individuals and we are not risking the life of our loved ones for it...my dear husband runs the H1N1 lab and handles the specimens, me myself work in an environment full with sick people, our children are at risks and my mother who is a diabetic is also at risk...

lastly, don't forget to pray... we've tried all sort of efforts to stop the transmission of one of the deadly virus, but He is the one who knows what is best for us...so, never stop praying for a good health...

hand, foot mouth disease (HFMD)

the whole family is QUARANTINED!!!!

Jihan and i got HFMD....and we are totally clueless where we got it from....i haven't seen such aptients before i was on raya leave and there was not a single case in Jihan's school...we probably contracted the disease during hari raya, but we wonder where was the source...

anyway, what happened was both of us had low grade fever and sorethroat with ILI symptoms but they were not that severe to disturb our daily activities and the duration was very transient....so we thought it was a normal upper respiratory tract infection...the next day Jihan said she had mouth pain, probably mouth ulcer due to too much drinking and eating all the kuih raya and stuffs...no other suspicious symptoms to suggest anything highly contagious or sinister...

on Wednesday, i realized i got a few tender nodules and blisters on the back of my hand.....i didn't pay much attention to it...i was on leave because i wanted to study for the exam...then i went back, Jihan couldn't eat because of painful sorethroat and mouth...we inspected her mouth and there were multiple ulcers and herpengina at the back of her mouth, palate and tongue...then we discovered multiple red spots on her feet, then hands....gosh!!! it really looked like HFMD...and i looked at my hands and oh my...i couldn't be getting it too...?? it rarely affects adult and sometimes it comes unnoticed...

the next day, i showed the lesions to my specialist...with the given history and suggestive physical symptoms, i was confirmed to have HFMD...and there were multiple ulcers in my mouth too but i didn't feel it that painful and i was able to eat normally....Jihan too was seen by my specialist and both of our cases were notified to the health authority....

HFMD is a notifiable disease that needs to be notified within 24 hours of diagnosis....it is highly contagious and treatment is just supportive and symptomatic...hygiene is very important and that's how the disease can be curbed....

we are recovering now...Jihan is able to tolerate orally better...her school is taking every measures to disinfect all their cutleries and picking up cases with similar symptoms to be checked by doctors....

i found a very good website regarding the disease, worthwhile to read about it...

the pain of confinement

Confinement is the most miserable time for me….well, not always…it’s also time for me to pamper myself and to relax…but I missed the food and drinks that cannot be taken during confinement period….

My second delivery pain was a lot more tolerable than the first one…my haemorrhoid was not that bad as the first time….and I did not suffer from bad constipation….the wound healing was a lot faster than the episiotomy…

I breastfed Imtiaz exclusively…the mature milk appeared after 3 days and the flow was good and I produced a lot of breastmilk after I had a good massage to encourage the flow by Cik Ton…I had my urut and bertungku session for 4 days…it was a good one….i felt my body was a lot better after the massage…

After coming back from the hospital, my weight was 55kg…I lost 4 kg during the delivery….i usually took bread and milo for breakfast, sandwiches, biscuits or meehon for lunch and later rice with confinement delicacies for dinner….within 1 week I dropped another 2 kg….this is also due to exclusively breastfeeding of every 2 hours….i feel good about my weight and can’t wait to get back into shape after the confinement….my exercise apparatus and vcd were nicely stored for the past 9 months!!!!

I have my mum and hubby to help me out with the new baby and Jihan….it is not easy to handle 2 children at the same time…..i hardly can find time for myself to read up the novels that I bought earlier to read during confinement time….i usually rest and take my nap when Imtiaz is sleeping….Imtiaz takes a long time to breastfeed, sometimes up to 1/2 hour and sometimes twice or three times in 2 hours!! …it was quite tiring for me too...but he is relatively easy to take care of…

I produced a lot of breast milk this time….even after nursing Imtiaz, I was still able to pump out from the same breast about 2oz and the other breast about 4-5 oz….i had sore and cracked nipple too as Imtiaz likes to bite and pull my nipple when he was feeding…at one time, I had to express one side of the breast due to a very sore nipple and feed Imtiaz with only one breast….then I had blocked milk duct which required me to go back to Cik Ton for massage and heat therapy to relieve the blocked duct….it was a very painful experience….i had a mild mastitis then but luckily it didn’t turn out to become a breast abscess…

I can’t wait for myself to heal and get better and can’t wait for this confinement period to end….Imtiaz is getting heavier each day…his cheeks plumped up and he is more playful now…

feeling better...

i'm not sure at what time i actually, properly dozed off last night...probably 2 am or 3 am...the last time i remembered, i was still heavily wheezing....alhamdulillah i'm still alive today...

i woke up in the morning with no wheeze but i was extremely sleepy...i invited few of my colleagues for lunch today, so i must get up and prepare the lunch!

alhamdulillah, the cough was better, no shortness of breath and no wheezing...i continued of regular dose of corticosteroid inhaler...i prepared the ingredients and cooked the meals with no problems...

and my colleagues enjoyed my foods, alhamdulillah....and i went to take a bronchodilator form the clinic, fearing of another asthma attack during the weekend...

hopefully, i'll be in good health throughout...

acute asthmatic attack

i can't sleep tonight...i'm currently having a bad wheeze...NO, i'm not known to be asthmatic before...i do have allergic rhinitis but no eczema or asthma...

i discovered that i was having a bad cough after i came back from Pulau Kapas...and my cough mainly worsened at night...last week, i had an episode of acute nocturnal wheeze...when i went to work, it disappeared...

i consulted my colleagues as i was in denial of having asthma at the age of 27+..! she said probably i was having a hyperactive airway post URTI...so, i took a course inhaled corticosteroid as a preventer of my wheezing episode....

and my cough was getting better....no more nocturnal wheezing and nocturnal cough...and i started to taper down my steroid...

but tonight, i really cannot sleep as i felt a little bit of chest tightness and a lot of cough, followed by both inspiratory and expiratory wheeze...when i was doing my cross trainer in the evening, i also had an exercise-induced cough but not as bad as tonight...

i took my stethoscope and heard rhonchi all over my lungs...

i definitely going to take a bronchodilator from the clinic tomorrow...but as for tonight, i will see first...if it worsens, i might go to the emergnecy department for a nebulizer...

the recovery....

my husband was brought back to his room at almost noon.....he was then more alert and conscious than before...i started given him liquid and he was taking it well....

he complained of shoulder tip pain more severe than the operation site pain...this was due to phrenic nerve irritation during the operation and due to some gas residue inside his abdominal cavity....i had to run down to the shop downstairs to get him some pain-relief patch for him to apply on his shoulder....

he was able to walk slowly to the toilet with my assistance and started to take soft diet....i became his private nurse to make sure all his needs were attended to as soon as possible....since we knew the staff nurses who work there very well, they were very happy that i did most of the things myself rather than to call them to do it, even though they offered to do them for me....i even took blood and insert the branula for my husband as he feared the houseman would do harm to him Nervous 2

my husband stayed in a 2-bedded room..the other bed was empty, so i got to sleep there at night...

we stayed at the ward until Tuesday evening (1 day after the operation)...he was feeling a bit better the next day and started to eat and drink quite a lot...(i have to run down the cafeteria twice to but him his favourite pau and cincau!!! )Blow Kiss

he is recovering now at home....started ambulating quite often and he told me last night that he'll be perfectly well by Sunday....

an anguish wait...

my dear hubby underwent his laparoscopic cholecystectomy (removal of his gallbladder secondary to symptomatic cholelithiasis) on Monday....

i thought of not seeing him in the operation theatre (OT) but i changed my mind because i wanted to be near him when he wakes up...

he went in at 8 o'clock but i only went in at 8.30 am because i didn't have the access to the changing room, so i had to wait for other staffs pass through the door....i worked there before, so i know my way around...

i went to his OT and saw him already under general anaesthesia (GA)...i did not enter the OT, i just waited outside the induction bay but was able to see him through the window...i didn't want to disturb the people inside the OT, they would probably become anxious if they know that i was there....

the surgeon and his assistants only started the operation at 8.50 am....they made 4 small holes on his abdomen to accomodate the camera port and other accessories to assist in removing the gallbladder....i can hear my hubby's pulse through the anaesthetist monitor...in the middle of the operation, the anaesthetist asked the surgoen to withold the procedure...he needed to change his laryngeal mask airway to endotracheal tube (ET) to ensure better air circulation to his lungs....so he was intubated in the middle of his surgery.....

the operation resumed...i was able to see the procedure through the monitor....his gallbladder was quite embedded to his liver with some adhesions...i wasn't sure about my feelings at that time....i was anxious when it was quite noisy in the OT...

the gallbladder was taken out after 1 hour the operation started....i've worked with the surgeon before, so when he came out i talked to him and he was assuring me that it was a succesful operation...no spillage of bile and not much bleed....

i went into the OT to see the stones; the culprit all this while....to my surprise, they were only tiny stones but many of them.....and they were black in colour....

my husband was stitched and cleaned after the procedure and he had difficulties to wake up from the anaesthesia....he was still unconcious but struggling when they wanted to get his ET tube out...

he was brought to the recovery bay and complained of pain at the operation site and also his shoulder....he was still not fully conscious and kept asking me the same questions about his operation....

affter 1/2 hour at the recovery bay, he was discharged back to the ward....

a healthy start (part 3)

it has been 5 months since i last wrote about the similar topic (part 1 & part 2)...well, i was trying very hard to loose weight and tone my body but i have these stubborn fat that was very hard to get rid off and the weight won't just drop off that easy....thus, i was not making any improvement from August to October last year and i was kind of giving up hope...? (i did not lose any KG during the fasting month!!!)

but to my surprise, i lost 1 kg during Hari Raya...i couldn't believe my eyes or the old weighing machine was not functioning right..? from that moment, i started to get serious, doing aerobics and workout at home using VCD as guidance about 3-4 times per week and i didn't eat much rice (actually, i omitted rice in my meal plans but eat other things than rice...)..it was hard not to eat rice at that moment because i was very, very used to it...no more nasi lemak, roti canai, etc....mostly i ate wholemeal bread, Kellogg's Special K or Post wholegrain cereal, fish, chicken, and lots of vegetables and fruit...(once a while, i ran away from my routine meal plans, especialy on the weekend, because i cook and bake delicious, scrumptious meals and i cannot curb my big appetite..)

then i bought this cross trainer at the end of November...i was puffing and panting when i first used the gadget...i did the routine for about 20 minutes (around 10km) then gradually increasing it to 30 -40 minutes (15-20km) per session and i did it for about 4-5 days per week....then i started to see some improvement, and it showed on the weighing scale....the pointer never hit above 60kg anymore...

i continued doing the same routine and my sister came back from Australia and gave the big Gym ball and i started doing exercise with it...then we bought a latin dance DVD and we started doing salsa and cha cha....(hey, now i'm really good at it!!)

i also bought monthly Malaysian fitness magazine, Shape and got some helpful tips from them...now i can fit into most of the dresses and stuffs from my "teenage" years (heheheh)...and i'm losing my double chin as well...how glad....!

i'm planning to shed off 2 or more kg (if possible) to achieve my ideal BMI....i did a blood test on myself last week and my cholesterol level dropped for about 37% and my fasting sugar dropped to 16% of improvement....pheww, i'm glad and happy!!

it has been proven on me that a good diet control and a good regime of exercise CAN help you to reduce your weight and to maintain a healthy lifestyle, thus keeping away all the risks of cardiovascular diseases...i am now more confident to counsel and advice my patients to follow my footsteps for their benefits as well....it's never too late to start being healthy-concsious, eventhough you were sedentary in the past, still it can reduce the mortality and morbidity rate from cardiovascular illnesses... (hey, i was living a sedentary lifestyle before..-never exercises and my mum used to call me lazy bums!)

so, let's kick this new year with another resolution in your list - stay fit and healthy....towards a healthy lifestyle...!!

ice cream for sorethroat...

recently Jihan was down with slight flu and cracking voice....she also had a low grade fever but recovered very fast, probably this is a wonder of breastmilk that she got when she was an infant....i realized that Jihan very seldom to become sick...

anyway, she probably had a slight sorethroat as she kept asking something soothing and cool... her appetite was good at that time despite her inflamed throat...

yesterday, i started to have a sorethroat and felt like eating a cornetto ice cream...so i bought some ice cream @ 7-11 and Jihan grabbed the chance to take a bite from mine.....and later that night she took a bite form her papa's...and her expression was, she really loves ice cream and really admiring the taste of it....

i usually advise my patients to take a bite of cooling yoghurt or drink to soothe their flaming throat...avoid hot drinks or soup as they tend to worsen sorethroat...

and today, Jihan and i are feeling better already!!!

a wisdom tooth story (part 2)

after almost 1 week suffering from the terrible ache, it finally subsides today...i went to dental department yesterday and had my OPG done...

my OPG

that's my OPG...can you see the wisdom tooth and the right side? that's actually my left lower wisdom tooth which is laying almost horizontal...it's pushing all the other teeth for it to come out..but still it cannot come out because of the overlying gum..the root actually is very near to the one of the dental nerves, that's why it is causing so much pain when it is inflammed and swollen as it compresses the nerve...while the right side being very vertical which make it easier to come out, but still cannot come out because of the overlying gum and soft tissue...so far it is sitting there quietly and i hope it will just stay there and be good!

so, that is the real situation...so what will happen now is i'm praying and hoping that i won't get another attack...and i hope they will call me earlier to have a minor oral surgery to remove the tooth!

so today, i started to eat normal food again (i have been depending on Nesvita 3 in 1 for the past few days) and able to consult my patients (though i restricted my conversations with them as it still give some pain when i talk too much)....

a wisdom tooth story...

impacted wisdom tooth

ouch!!! oh, hai...! i'm in no mood to do anything today...i've been trying to let myself out of this hot and stuffy environment for God-knows how long....as far as i remember, i've been in here for ages...and i remained still and quiet without disturbing others..but for the past one year or so, i thought it'll be nice if i can venture what is outside there...so, i thought i wanted to peep around and that was when i started pushing myself to the surface...

well, i managed to peep a little bit...i got to see my other friends out there...before this, i can only hear their voices...but is not that good though...i cannot squeeze myself back in...i cannot stand all the food debris got stuck in between me and my home..and it tend to be smelly...yucks!!

when my home got covered with the dirty food debris, it will become so ugly and dirty...i cannot sweep them away...but i feel great when i got a very nice bath with Oral B shampoo cleaning me and swept the dirty things away...sometimes, when i throw my tantrum, my home swelled up and trapped me...and i felt stuck and stuffy...

it has been a few days that i am not feeling that good...my home is swelling up and i becames stuffy and i tried to push myself to the surface more and more...luckily i don't have any fever...and some of my friends out there also complained of uneasiness with my home swelling up...

just now i heard someone talking about me...they were discussing of throwing me out for good!!!!! oh, no!!!! that's not good for me...i'm losing my friends and where will i be sent to..?? but they thought of doing it later because it's going to be a painful thing to do and it is expensive...but they somehow can get it done for free as well...oh, i don't know.....if they want to throw me out, i will hold tight to my lovely home and call my friends to hold my hands not to let me go....!

maybe, that's the fate of me...i've nowhere to go now...i wait and i wait for my destiny...i don't decide for my own destiny...but they do - the HUMAN!

yeah, that's the story of my wisdom tooth, to be exact - the left lower wisdom tooth...the right-sided one has been good, it has not decided to come out...i can't decide yet what to do..luckily it is not infected...just impacted...this is worst than wearing a braces!!!!! arghhhhhhhhhhh!!!!

acute abdomen (part 3) - laparoscopic cholecystectomy

so, hubby is confirmed to have cholelithiasis (stones in gallbladder)...he went to see the surgeon to see what can be done (eventhough we know that surgery is the definitive treatment)...he waited for quite some time in the clinic waiting for his queue...finally he got to see the surgeon and it was a coincidence that he saw our former lecturer, Mr Jun...

Mr Jun set a date for the elective surgery - laparoscopic cholecystectomy...it will be somewhere in January 2008...it is still 3 months away, so dear hubby really has to take care of himself not to let the stones causing obstruction in the biliary tree which can cause acute infection of the gallbladder...

dear hubby has a mixed emotion...he is actually worried about the surgery...it is not an open abdomen surgery...it's going to be 4 incisions on the abdomen to insert a camera and the apparatus to cut and remove the gallbladder...the recovery period is also quick and hospital stays can be shortened as well...on the other side, he cannot wait to have the surgery as he could not bear the pain anymore (if it ever happen again)...

so, we pray that he will not have anymore pain and the surgery will go on smoothly...in the mean time, i have to restrict my cooking method to the non oily type...

acute abdomen (part 2)

alhamdulillah, my husband is well and pain-free for the past few days....i am just so scared when he was to have the pain again...!! we hate to go through all the hassle at the emergency department....(we cannot store all medications at home, especially the injections type, even though we are doctors..)

my hubby went to work early today as he has to queue to get his ultrasound abdomen done...at 11 am, he called me at work telling me that he is confirmed to have multiple calculi (stones) in his gallbladder...that causes him to have the pain when the calculi got stuck at the biliary tree....

now we already know the diagnosis....so, i referred him to a hepatobilary surgeon and scheduled for an appointment within these few days....

probably he needs an operation soon (laparoscopic cholecystectomy) to remove his gallbladder which contains the calculi, because he experiences all the pain....hopefully he'll get it done before his exam....in the meanwhile, he is more careful in selecting his food now...which is good!

Acute abdomen

we had a wonderful Raya this time....it's the first time after 3 years of marriage and working, that me and hubby celebrated Raya together and really enjoyed ourselves meeting relatives and friends....in 2005, hubby had to work during Hari Raya and for the next 3 consecutive days, so only me and Jihan went back to my parents' kampung...in 2006, we only spent 2 days of Raya together as hubby already starts working on the 3rd Raya....this year, although i have to be oncalled on the 2nd Raya, we still can enjoy our Raya holidays as we had quite a long holidays after that until the 6th Raya...

as usual, my dear hubby who simply loves eating, will eat just anything on the table....unfortunately, not all things end in a good way...on the 2nd Raya, while i was oncall, we managed to get some late lunch at Nando's and later went to my aunt's house to eat some soto...my hubby ate quite a lot....later that night, he complained of right hypochondrium pain and it was quite constant...after giving him some medications and ointment, the pain was still there....it was the similar type of pain he had during fasting month when he ate a lot, but at that time the pain resolved by itself...so that night, i ended up bringing him to the hospital for an injection....alhamdulillah, the pain resolved and he managed to get a good night sleep and we travelled to Batu Pahat the next day to see the rest of the families there...

we planned to do an ultrasound on him to see whether he has some stones suck at his biliary tree (the pain was highly suggestive of biliary colic)...but it's still during raya holiday, no radiology MO to do the scan...so, 2 days ago, my mum cooked some lontong and as usual we ate a lot...unfortunately, my hubby had the same type of pain that night....he was profusely sweating bearing the pain....and we ended up in the hospital again...after a few injections and few blood tests (which were normal), my hubby felt better and was discharged home....

he needs to get the ultrasound done fast to see whether is it the stone that causing him all the pain or is it something else, then we need to refer him to appropriate specialty...in the meanwhile, i have to control his food intake...no oily food and not too much of food per meal...because if lots of oily food is consumed, more bile is excreted to digest the oil and probably the stone (if it is there at the gallbladder or biliary tree) will get obstructed and will cause pain (biliary colic)....

we pray that it is not something sinister and may he recover fast and be in good health always....

the thrill of cooking for your family...

i am thankful that i've been given a good and promising job this year as a trainee lecturer in a family mediine department....i do a 8 to 5 job at the clinic with once a while oncall at the low risk birth centre ....and i have more time to spend with my beloved ones...but i'll definitely miss this opportunity again next year once i enrol into the masters programme...anyway, i will make use of the time i have now to the fullest...

so this ramadhan, i cook almost everyday, i venture into different dishes each day...we rarely buy dishes at the pasar ramdhan except for a few kuih and drinks...but the main dish, i always cook for my family...and they love them very much...

i gain the satisfaction when they eat everything i cook ( of course they taste very good)...in a way, i only cook the best ingredients and i can minimize the usage of salt, oil and other unhealthy stuffs in my dishes....thus promote a good healthy eating habits in the family...during my consultation in the clinic, i always advice on healthy diet so i have to make it into my own practice as well...

in previous ramadhan, our table was full of bought dishes...but this year most of them are homecooked dishes....

wonderful recipes @ my other blog

a healthy start (part 2)

this is a progress from the part 1...i've begin to sweat out today together with my mum...we did a 40 minutes workout and it was hard enough to make us sweat...and now i started feeling the aching here and there...i bought a Kathy Smith's CD few days ago to get started and it was worth buying it...

i was inspired by hliza...and we have the same goal which is to tone our body and to reduce our weight!!! at the same time to remain healthy....nowadays, i also reduce my food intake especially at night...

so, i hope i can maintain the current lifestyle and achieve my goal...Yeah!!!

a healthy start....

yeah!!! i'm supposed to be energetic and conform to the rule of "exercise on most of the days of the week" to stay healthy and reduce ther risk of morbidity in later life....but it is not always easy to stick that rule...i will always have something to do or just too lazy to change my outfit when i intend to walk or jog in the park or go to my hospital gym that i pay for only RM 20 for my whole life as long as i am still the staff there...

i need to be strong and fight this laziness inside me....i need to show a good example to my patients and my family (especially my daughter) as this is the time to socialize with others and take a good fresh air in the park besides getting the benefits of exercising....

i went to follow my dad to his family day today...managed to follow the aerobic session (eventhough it was already towards the end of it...) my daughter enjoyed herself playing and ruuning around the park....

it's good to exercise on most of the days of the week but if it is not possible, try at least 3 times per week, 30-45 minutes each session....when you briskwalk or jog, it doesn't matter the distance but you need do it continuously for 30-45 minutes...and gradually increase the frequency and intensity over time...

Good Luck!!!!

conjunctivitis

i'm on medical leave today...i woke up this morning feeling sticky right eye....with lots of eye discharge and difficult to open my right eye....i looked up in the mirror, oh no..!!a very inflammed conjunctiva...!!!
i called my specialist that i won't be able to work today and infect my patients with conjunctivitis..she gave me a medical leave today and if i'm still not well tomorrow, just inform her for another day of medical leave...
i'm not sure from where i got this infection...as far as i remebered, i haven't seen patients with red eyes for quite some time...none of my immediate families and friends contracted this disease before.....i hope that this disease will only confined to me as i don't want to infect others especially my dear daughter...
what to do when you have red eyes...?
  • there are many causes of red eyes. if it is associated with itchiness, eye discharge and causes sticky eyes, most probably it is infective in origin
  • beware if you have blurring of vision, headache, nausea or vomiting. these symptoms may indicate that your red eyes are non infective. seek immediate treatment at you doctor.
  • always wash your hands after touching your eye and before you touch the other eye. this may prevent the infection to spread to the other eye.
  • most of the infective red eyes are caused by virus. it may take about 5-7 days to subside. bacterial conjunctivitis associated with more purulent and copious eye discharge
  • treatment is by topical eyedrop antibiotic not by oral medications
  • quarantine yourself or your child. abstain your child from school or nursery and yourself from workplace as this condition is infective
  • do not rub your eyes if it is itchy. you may ask your doctor for antihistamine
